Homewood Science Center is a nonprofit community science center founded in 2016 to serve Chicago’s culturally and economically diverse south suburbs. Our mission is to inspire scientific wonder, learning, and pursuit. We work with educators, STEM professionals, and partner organizations to increase STEM literacy and foster diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM, so all area students can gain the skills and confidence they need to fully enjoy and contribute to the civic and commercial vibrancy of our region.

 

Scope of Work

The contracted development professional will work in coordination with the executive director to conduct the following activities-

  1. Research Funding Opportunities - 

    • Identify at least 7 private foundations, 5 corporations, 3 government grants, and other funding sources.

    • Present strategies for increasing individual donor pool by 10% in 2025, especially high capacity donors.

  2. ​Grant Writing and Submission -

    • Prepare compelling grant proposals, applications, and supporting documentation.

    • Coordinate submission processes and ensure adherence to deadlines and requirements.

  3. Donor Cultivation and Stewardship -

    • Develop relationships with potential funders through targeted outreach and communication.

    • Maintain regular contact with existing funders to ensure ongoing support.

  4. Strategic Planning and Reporting -

    • Collaborate with leadership to establish fundraising goals and strategies.

    • Provide quarterly progress reports, including metrics on funding secured and pending applications.

Eligibility Requirements

Qualified candidates should have:

  • Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising and development. Experience securing funding for youth, museum and STEM programs is a plus.

  • A successful track record of securing grants and other funding.

  • Strong writing and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of the STEM education landscape is preferred but not required.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with the Homewood Science Center team.

 

Proposal Requirements

Interested candidates must submit the following:

1. Cover Letter

2. Resume or CV

3. Work Sample - Include examples of successful grants or other fundraising initiatives you have led.

4. Proposed Terms and Compensation - Outline your fee structure and any additional terms.

5. References - Provide contact information for three professional references.

Date: December 19, 2024

Proposal Submission Deadline: January 17, 2025

Candidate Selection and Notification: February 7, 2025

Contract Start Date: February 18, 2025
